This place is amazing.  It has two somewhat posh dining rooms, one up one down, and also an eensy-weensy bar for tapas.   I always go to the bar, when there is room to squeeze in.  But I will have to try out the dining room one day…

At the bar you can get quite an interesting selection of wines by the glass, more so than at other tapa bars.  Also some fabulous tapas.  Some of my favourites include:  an asparagus flamenquín, breaded & fried rolled aubergine with prawns inside, stewed melt-in-your-mouth lamb in a honey sauce … and well, just about everything else.

The staff are very friendly and helpful … “oh what should I have today?” always ends up with quite a few good recommendations.

Honestly and truly the very best sangría and gaspacho I’ve ever had in Sevilla. The first night I arrived in Sevilla from Salalmanca (September 1993)  with a car-load of all my stuff, including cats, I ended up waiting outside my new apartment building for three hours before the landlord showed up. The apartment building was directly across the street from Bar Campanario. First meetings often mean so much – in this case I was stuck in my car with two tired and screaming cats, and the very friendly bar staff kept bringing me wine …

It became my home away from home, and their pleasant street terrace was my ‘reading room’ where I would sit out in the evenings with my book and always have company if I felt like it. A year or so later I moved down the street to a bigger apartment and had less need to go out every evening. But it still remains ‘my local’ and one of my favourite bars in Sevilla.
